ABOUT

Mike Glennon is an award winning media artist, musician and creative arts researcher based in Co. Wicklow. His creative practice spans forms including radio documentary, composition and sound design. 

 

The radio documentary The Dawning of The Day, which Mike wrote, produced and presented, was awarded Silver in The Best Music, Arts & Culture Documentary category at the IMRO Radio Awards in 2023. He was also part of the creative team behind the Hy Brasil installation which was awarded a Gold Kinsale Shark Award in 2019

 

Mike has collaborated with artists across various disciplines creating audio for installation, video, performance and more. He has created sound and music for projects involving The National Museum of Ireland, Bram Stoker Festival, Dublin City Council and others. He also acted as composer for the video work Thirteen Women (2013) by Amanda Coogan and Paddy Cahill which was acquired by the Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin in 2023.

 

Mike was awarded a PhD by TU Dublin in 2021 for his research on Mix-Based Modes of Making Music. He has presented his research at events such as the Research Pavilion of the Venice Biennalle, the Irish Sound Science Technology Association Conference and the KISMIF Conference, Porto. His writing has been published by platforms including Organised Sound (Cambridge University Press), RTE Brainstorm and Sounding Out. His most recent publication was in the book Always Different, Always The Same: Critical Essays on The Fall, edited by Eoin Devereux and Martin J.Power and published by Rowman & Littlefield (2022). Mike also lectures on music, media, culture and communications at TU Dublin and BIMM Dublin.

 

Mike is also a member of the band The 202s. The 202s debut album was released to positive critical notice across Europe by Harmonia Mundi / Le Son du Maquis in 2009 making them labelmates with artists including Cluster, Faust and A Certain Ratio. They subsequently released an acclaimed second album in 2018.
